The three tiers of after-hours Davos — who's in each room, what time it starts, and how each door actually works.

The official programme runs on a fixed schedule, badge or no badge. What happens after it ends each night runs on a different, unwritten one — three overlapping tiers of receptions, hotel bars and private chalets, each harder to get into than the last.
Here's how the evening actually breaks down, tier by tier, and what actually gets you through each door.
Tier One — the Promenade mixers (9–11pm)
- Before anything more exclusive starts, the Promenade itself is loud and open. Corporate houses and national pavilions run public evening receptions with drinks flowing freely — the point is visibility, not depth, and this isn't where deals close.
- Don't linger. Use the hour to find out who's actually in town, get pulled into a WhatsApp group for the week, and hear where the night is really heading — the people you meet here are often the ones who can get you into Tier Two.

Tier Two — the hotel lounges (10pm–1:30am)
- Once the pavilions close, the crowd moves inside hotel doors. This is the part of the evening people mean when they say "Parallel Davos" — lower volume, higher stakes, and a lot more security.
- A hotel badge or dinner reservation clears the lobby; the bar itself is a separate call each venue's own security makes on the spot. Arriving before the room properly fills, around 9pm, generally works better than trying to talk your way in at midnight.
- The two piano bars are a special case worth planning around: Barry's fills up early with Cloudflare's own corporate events, so it's genuinely hard to get in before midnight. Tier Three — the midnight chalet circuit (11:30pm–2:30am)
- The most consequential hour of the week rarely happens in a hotel at all. Companies, funds and delegations rent private chalets across Davos Dorf and Platz for the week, and the smallest, latest gatherings — fifteen to thirty people around a fireplace, no name badges — are where a lot of the Forum's real edge business gets done. CNBC has covered this world for years as the "Davos underground."
- Who's actually hosting varies year to year. Venture and private-equity firms, hedge funds and family offices, and defence-and-aerospace-adjacent tech companies are the categories that show up most often in the reporting, alongside the occasional sovereign fund.
- There's no charming your way in. Entry means a calendar invite or a pass shared in a private Signal or WhatsApp group, sent by someone who was already going. Platz has the tighter concentration of chalets; Dorf means a longer, colder walk between them — worth planning transport for in advance.
The gatekeeper playbook
- Three different levels of security, three different sets of rules:

Three things worth knowing before you head out
- Skip the wardrobe change. Going back to change loses momentum, and hailing a taxi in the evening rush is close to impossible. - Watch the funicular. Invited up to the Schatzalp late in the evening? The last car down runs at midnight, and only every 30 minutes after 7pm — miss it and the walk down is a genuinely bad idea in January.
- Pace yourself. The people actually closing things during the week are running on very little sleep and pacing their drinking accordingly. Visibly overserved is the fastest way for Europe's or the Belvédère's door staff to quietly walk you back outside.
What's changing for 2027
- Davos by the Numbers puts the unbadged crowd — everyone in town without an official Forum badge — at roughly 27,000 people most years. The municipality's new cap on temporary structures, covered in full in our piece on the 2027 building rules, means fewer new pop-up pavilions on the Promenade itself, which pushes more of that crowd's evening options toward the hotels and chalets rather than a corporate tent.
- Practically: book Tier Two dinner reservations and hotel bar tables earlier than you would have in past years, and don't assume a Promenade pop-up you remember from 2026 is still standing in January 2027.
