Meeting space, offices and marketing opportunities in Davos: what is allowed after 15 August

The municipality's building permit deadline for WEF 2027 has passed and the number of projects is capped. Here is what you can still use, what needs a permit, and how we find private meeting space, marketing opportunities and branded goods that fit the rules.

The short answer

  • The deadline for building applications for temporary WEF structures and venue conversions was 15 August 2026, and the municipality of Davos capped the total at 125 projects.
  • A shop, restaurant, bar, gallery or apartment cannot be turned into a temporary venue now unless an approved permit already covers it and names your company.
  • Meetings and work inside a hotel, a private chalet or apartment, or an office used as an office need no building permit, as long as no logo or screen can be seen from the street.
  • Each company is limited to one project in total across Davos, and sponsors have to be named in the original application.
  • Marketing opportunities (public ad space, branded goods, sponsoring a side event) and a place booked for 2028 are still open, and we help with each.

Every no here has a way forward: an indoor space for 2027, a host that already holds a permit and can include you, or a space submitted for 2028.

What changed for WEF 2027

For the 2027 Annual Meeting the municipality of Davos introduced a numerical cap on temporary WEF structures and venue conversions for the first time. These are the rules that matter when you look for a meeting space, an office or a place to put your name.

The deadline
Applications for temporary structures and venue conversions closed on 15 August 2026. A space that needs a permit and was not in an application by then is out of reach for 2027.
The cap
The municipality capped the total at 125 projects and ranks the applications on a points system. A project that was fined in a previous year receives penalty points.
One project per company
A company can have one project in total across Davos. Being present in a shared permitted space counts as that project.
Sponsors named upfront
A company that receives a room and branding in a permitted venue has to be named in the original application. Adding sponsors or subletting space later is a violation.
Street-visible branding
Any logo, screen or branding that can be seen from the street needs a permit, also from inside the window. The old exemption for branding set back 1.5 metres from the glass is gone.
Digital screens
Digital advertising space is limited to 10 m² per permitted project.
Fines
In 2026 the municipality issued 36 fines for temporary WEF structures, among them for building without a permit and for breaking fire-safety rules.

Official sources: the municipality's page for applicants of temporary projects and its factsheet on the updated WEF 2027 rules. Rules and deadlines can change, so check them before you sign.

Allowed, no building permit

  • Meetings and work inside a hotel, a private chalet or apartment, or an office used as an office.
  • Screens and branding that cannot be seen from the street.
  • Private dinners and catering inside, with the owner's written OK for caterers and AV staff.
  • Your own staff and invited guests. An open public event is a different matter.

Needs a building permit

  • Turning a storefront, restaurant, bar, gallery or apartment into a temporary venue or hub.
  • A restaurant or bar that closes to the public to serve as your private venue.
  • Any logo, screen or branding that can be seen from the street, also from inside the window.
  • Using a permitted space when your company was not named on the original application.

The line between using an apartment for your own meetings and turning it into a hub depends on the case. We ask the owner and, where it matters, the municipality before we recommend a space.

Where you can meet in Davos for WEF 2027

Two private rooms for simultaneous bilaterals. A working room for a delegation. Somewhere close to the Congress Centre where people can come and go without turning every meeting into a transport operation. These are the kinds of space we look at, and what each one means for the permit.

What we check before we recommend a space

A beautiful address can still be a terrible meeting space. Before we put one to you we look at the owner and the use, then at what happens on the day.

The property

  • Who owns the space
  • What the owner permits
  • What the space can hold
  • Whether the intended use is allowed

The day itself

  • Can guests reach it easily?
  • Can catering and AV teams get in?
  • Does the layout give you the privacy you need?
  • Are there enough separate rooms?
  • Can you use screens or branding?
  • How far is it really from the Congress Centre?
  • What security or access arrangements apply?
  • Two rooms can turn out to be one room with a sofa pretending to be a second room.
  • A five-minute walk means something different when you carry equipment through snow.
  • A property that looks perfect online can have restrictions that only show when you ask the right questions.

Distances are measured on the street. The Congress Centre is at Talstrasse 49a; see zones and walking times and our venues, office and meeting space page.

Shared meeting space

There is a lot of expensive real estate in Davos for one week, and much of it sits empty between meetings. A company may need a room in the morning and another team may need it in the afternoon. Two organisations may need separate rooms in the same property. A larger space can work for several companies when their schedules are coordinated.

We are putting this together now. Tell us the days, the number of people and how private the room has to be, and we see whether your needs fit a shared space or call for a private one.

Sharing a private room or an office is an agreement between the owner and the people who use it. Sharing a space that holds a building permit is another case, because the permit names the companies that may use it and each one has to be in the application. We tell you which case you are in before you commit.

Documents to get before you sign

We collect these with the owner before we recommend a space. Ask for the same if you find one yourself.

  1. Land register extract

The Grundbuchauszug is the proof of ownership. The person who signs is the registered owner or holds a certified power of attorney.

  2. Owner's written consent

For corporate use: meetings and invited third-party guests during WEF week.

  3. Merkblatt compliance declaration

Signed by the owner: the space meets the Gemeinde Davos WEF guidelines on fire safety, capacity and structure.

  4. Approved use of the space

The owner confirms in writing that the space is approved for your use, for example as an office.

  5. Vendor access in writing

Caterers and AV technicians may enter, confirmed by the owner or the building management.

  6. Building permit

The Baubewilligung, only if the space was converted before 15 August. It has to name your company.

  7. Hospitality use proof

Only for hotel suites and conference rooms: the contract classes the space as ordinary hospitality use.

The contract

A short-term lease for WEF week, in writing. A standard holiday rental will not do. It carries three clauses: commercial hospitality use for private corporate meetings and invited guests; access for your caterers, AV and security staff; and the owner's confirmation of fire and capacity compliance, with cover for you against municipal occupancy disputes. Hold the security deposit in a Swiss escrow or trust account.

T-shirts, goodies and branded goods

We get a lot of requests for t-shirts, hats, gloves and other goodies to hand out during WEF week. The goods are the easy part. The harder questions are where you hand them out and what the rules allow there.

Giving items to your own guests inside a hotel, a chalet or an office is ordinary hospitality. Handing them out on public ground can need approval from the municipality during WEF week, and a branded stand or shopfront falls under the venue rules above. We check where and how you plan to hand them out before you print.

In January the goods that get used are the warm ones: hats, gloves, scarves, hand warmers and boot spikes. Tell us the number, the date they have to be in Davos and where they will be handed out, and we plan the delivery back from your first event.

What is possible after 15 August, for your kind of team

The rules are the same for everyone. What you can do inside them depends on who you are and what you came to do. These are the four groups we hear from most.

Tech and AI companies

Demo rooms, investor pitches and screen presentations work in a multi-room hotel suite or a private apartment, with screens facing in. A storefront demo space needed a permit due on 15 August. Most tech networking sits in the side events, which need a registration or an invitation, not a WEF badge.

Podcasters, broadcasters and media creators

A street-level booth or a shopfront studio needs a permit that is no longer available. An enclosed studio in a hotel boardroom, a suite or a private chalet is still possible with the owner's written OK. Choose a place outside the security perimeter so your crew and your guests can reach it.

Book ahead for January 2028: spaces go fast

The good spaces are agreed a year or more ahead, and under the new cap fewer of them meet the Swiss legal requirements each year. The 2027 permit window closed five months before the meeting. If the same pattern holds for 2028, a space that needs a permit is decided in the summer of 2027.

Booking ahead gives us time to check each space properly with the owner before you commit: ownership, approved use, the documents above and the contract. You are first in line when owners confirm next year's lets.

  • First choice when owners confirm the 2028 lets
  • Every space checked against the Swiss legal requirements and the permit rules, with the documents in hand

Questions about meeting space, offices and marketing in Davos

The 15 August rules

Can we still rent a storefront on the Promenade for WEF 2027?

Only if it already has an approved building permit that covers your use and names your company. The municipality of Davos (Gemeinde Davos) closed applications for temporary WEF structures and venue conversions on 15 August 2026 and capped the total at 125 projects. A shop, restaurant, bar or gallery that was not in an application cannot be turned into a temporary venue now, and we advise against taking one without seeing the approved permit.

The way forward

Take an indoor space instead: a hotel suite or boardroom, a chalet or an apartment gives you meetings, screens and private dinners with no building permit. Or ask us to look at a host that already holds an approved permit and can still include you, which we check is allowed before you commit. Or submit for 2028 now, so your space is chosen before the next permit deadline.

Submit for 2028Ask us to help

What can we still use for meetings after 15 August?

Meetings and work inside a hotel, a private chalet or apartment, or an office used as an office need no building permit as we read the rules. Screens and branding have to be out of sight from the street, private dinners and catering inside need the owner's written OK for caterers and AV staff, and the guests are your own staff and invited people. An open public event is a different matter.

Are screens and logos allowed inside a rented space?

Yes, as long as nothing can be seen from the street. The old exemption for branding set back 1.5 metres from a shop window is gone for WEF 2027: a logo, screen or branding with an external visual effect needs a permit, also when it stands inside the window. Face screens inward and put blinds or film on every window that looks onto the street.

Can a company run more than one venue or activation in Davos?

No. Each company is limited to one project in total across Davos, and being present in a shared permitted space counts as that project. A company that receives a room and branding in a permitted venue has to be named in the original application. Adding sponsors or subletting space after the permit is filed is a violation.

The way forward

Use your one project where it counts and fill the rest of the week with things that are not projects: indoor meetings, a private dinner, public ad space and speaking. Tell us what you want to achieve and we suggest the mix. Plan your next project for 2028.

What happens to a venue that operates without a permit?

It can be fined. In 2026 the municipality issued 36 fines for temporary WEF structures, among them for building without a permit and for breaking fire-safety rules. Fined projects receive penalty points that count against them in the next year's application.

The way forward

Before you sign, we ask the owner for the approved permit and check that it covers your use and names your company. If it does not, we look for an indoor space that needs none.

Submit for 2028Ask us to help

Does a restaurant or bar count as a private venue if it closes to the public?

It needs a building permit. A restaurant or bar that closes to the public to serve as your private venue is a change of use, and so is turning a storefront, a gallery or an apartment into a temporary venue or hub.

The way forward

Look at private dining in a hotel or a chalet, or in a restaurant that stays open as an ordinary seated restaurant, and ask us to check each one with the owner. If you want a venue of your own, submit for 2028.

Finding private meeting space

Where can we hold meetings in Davos during WEF week?

In a hotel meeting room or business suite, a private chalet or large apartment, or an existing office used as an office. We check who owns the space, what the owner permits, how many people it holds and whether the intended use is allowed, before we recommend it.

Which documents should we get before we sign for a space?

Seven things: the land register extract (Grundbuchauszug), the owner's written consent for corporate use, the owner's signed Merkblatt declaration on fire safety, capacity and structure, written confirmation that the space is approved for your use, written vendor access for caterers and AV technicians, the building permit (Baubewilligung) if the space was converted before 15 August, and proof of hospitality use for hotel suites and conference rooms.

What should the contract say?

Use a short-term lease for WEF week, in writing. A standard holiday rental will not do. It should allow commercial hospitality use for private corporate meetings and invited guests, give your caterers, AV technicians and security staff access, and have the owner confirm fire and capacity compliance and cover you against municipal occupancy disputes. Hold the security deposit in a Swiss escrow or trust account.

Can several companies share one meeting room or property?

In a hotel, chalet, apartment or office where the owner agrees, yes: one team in the morning and another in the afternoon, or two rooms in one property. In a space that holds a building permit, sharing has to be declared in the application from the start. We tell you which case you are in before you commit.

Do our guests and caterers need WEF badges to reach a meeting space?

Not outside the security perimeter. The Cantonal Police redraw the perimeter every year, and inside it access is controlled. In 2026 it covered Talstrasse 40 to 55, Promenade 85 to 115 and Promenade 155 to 165. We check the current layout against the address, and caterers and AV teams need the owner's written access in any case.

How far is a space from the Congress Centre, really?

We measure it on the street. The Congress Centre is at Talstrasse 49a, Talstrasse 40 is 221 metres from it, and along the Promenade the house number decides the walk, at roughly 19 metres a number. In snow, with equipment or in a crowd, a five-minute walk takes longer.

How early do we need to ask for meeting space?

As early as you can. Central options in Davos fill six to nine months ahead, so for January 2027 what remains is limited and changes by the day. Send the requirements now, even a partial brief.

Marketing opportunities, billboards and goodies

What marketing opportunities are there in Davos during WEF week?

Public ad space (posters and digital screens), branded goods for your guests, sponsoring a side event, hosting your own dinner or reception, speaking slots and a featured placement on Davos Access. Branding that can be seen from the street on a private shopfront or window needs a building permit, so we suggest the mix against who you want to reach and when.

Can we put up billboards or posters in Davos during WEF week?

Yes, through public ad space. Branding on a private shopfront or window needs a building permit, while public ad placements are booked separately from any venue. We have 11 placements in central Davos Platz for WEF week: eight poster boards (one of them backlit) and three digital screens, on the Promenade, Talstrasse, at Rätia Center and at Coop.

What are the dates and deadlines for the billboards?

Every placement covers WEF week, 18 to 24 January 2027. Two posters start earlier, on 11 January, and one runs until 31 January. Creative is due on 30 November 2026 and printed posters on 14 December 2026.

How much does a Davos billboard cost?

The price is on request for each placement and printing is extra. Two brands can share one placement and split the cost.

Can we hand out t-shirts, hats and goodies in Davos?

Yes, in the right place. Giving items to your own guests inside a hotel, chalet or office is ordinary hospitality. Handing them out on public ground can need approval from the municipality during WEF week, and a branded stand or shopfront falls under the venue rules above. We check where and how you plan to hand them out before you print.

Which branded goods work in Davos in January?

Warm things that people use outdoors: hats, gloves, scarves, hand warmers and boot spikes. Tell us the number, the date they are needed in Davos and where they will be handed out, and we plan the delivery back from your first event.

Booking ahead for 2028

Can we book meeting space, an office or a venue for January 2028 now?

Yes. The best places are agreed a year or more ahead, and the 2027 permit window closed five months before the meeting. If the same pattern holds for 2028, spaces that need a permit are decided in the summer of 2027. Tell us now what you will need and you are first in line when owners confirm next year's lets.

Will the rules be stricter in 2028?

We expect so. The municipality introduced the cap of 125 projects for 2027 for the first time and local reporting expects further tightening in the coming years. We update this page as owners, venues and the municipality publish more.

The way forward

Booking ahead is the answer. Submit what you will need for 2028 and we check each space with the owner while the options are open.

Tech and AI companies, founders and investors

Can a tech startup get value from WEF Davos 2027 without a WEF badge?

Yes. Most tech networking happens in the side programme, not inside the Congress Centre. In 2026 we mapped 112 AI and compute side events among 497, along the Promenade and in hotels, and most of them needed a registration or an invitation rather than a WEF badge.

How do we set up a private demo room for enterprise clients after 15 August?

Use a multi-room hotel suite, a hotel meeting room or a private apartment, with the owner's written consent for corporate use. Product demos and screen presentations inside are fine as long as nothing branded can be seen from the street. A storefront demo space needs a building permit, and the application deadline was 15 August 2026.

Where do the tech hubs and AI houses cluster during WEF week?

Mostly along the Promenade between Davos Platz and Davos Dorf, where the Houses are, with more in hotels and up at the Schatzalp. A meeting base within walking distance of the Promenade saves your team the transfers between panels. We measure the real walk to each address.

Can a tech company run its own House or branded space in 2027?

Not as a new project. Converting a shopfront needed a permit applied for by 15 August 2026, and each company can have one project in total.

The way forward

Host a private dinner or roundtable in a hotel or chalet, or ask us whether a House that already holds a permit can include you, which we check is allowed before you commit. Or plan your own House for 2028 now.

Family offices and investors

Where can a family office hold private asset allocation meetings in Davos?

In a private chalet or apartment with its own door, or in a hotel boardroom or suite. Hotel lobbies and Promenade venues are crowded and hard to keep private. A chalet gives you control over who comes in, and the owner agrees to that in the contract.

Do family office principals need to be registered WEF delegates to attend investor side events?

No. A WEF badge is for the Congress Centre. Side events, private dinners and receptions run on their own registration, applications or invitations, and many work by guest list and introduction. We make introductions only when both sides agree, and we never name who stayed where.

Is it better for an investor delegation to stay in Davos or in Klosters?

Davos if the principal moves between back-to-back meetings and cannot lose time in transit. Klosters if space and privacy matter more: it has larger chalets and more quiet, with about 25 minutes by train to Davos, and a road transfer that can take much longer in snow or behind a motorcade.

Is a private dinner or meeting in a chalet allowed after 15 August?

Yes, for your own guests, with the owner's written consent for corporate use and written access for caterers and AV staff. A restaurant or bar that closes to the public to become your private venue is a different case and needs a building permit.

Podcasters, broadcasters and media creators

Can we build a pop-up recording studio on the Promenade after 15 August?

No. A street-level booth is a temporary structure and a shopfront turned into a studio is a venue conversion. Both need a building permit, and the deadline for applications was 15 August 2026. As reported, a narrow list of large media organisations with WEF membership can keep building as before. Independent podcasters and creators are not on it.

The way forward

Record in an enclosed studio instead: a hotel boardroom or suite, a chalet or an apartment, which we check with the owner for power, sound and filming. Or ask us whether a host that already holds a permit can include your show, which we check is allowed before you commit. Or submit for 2028 and plan a studio before the next permit deadline.

Submit for 2028Ask us to help

What is the best layout for a podcast or broadcast studio in Davos?

An enclosed room: a hotel boardroom or suite, or the living room of a private chalet or apartment. Acoustic panels, lights and several cameras can go inside with the owner's written OK, and the production stays inside the property with nothing branded visible from the street. Ask about power, Wi-Fi, noise from neighbours and ceiling height before you commit.

How do high-profile guests reach our recording location?

Choose a location outside the security perimeter and within walking distance of the Promenade. Inside the perimeter, access is controlled and an unbadged crew with equipment needs arrangements in advance. The police redraw the perimeter every year (in 2026 it covered Talstrasse 40 to 55 and Promenade 85 to 115 and 155 to 165), so we check the current line against the address.

Do we need accreditation to film or interview at WEF?

Inside the Congress Centre, yes: media accreditation is issued by the World Economic Forum and nobody can sell it. Outside it, you need the agreement of whoever hosts each space or event. Davos Access is independent of the Forum and does not arrange accreditation.

The way forward

Apply to the Forum for the Congress Centre. Outside it, we help with the space and with introductions to hosts, when both sides agree.

Delegations and organisations

What can a delegation still do in Davos after 15 August?

A base in a hotel, chalet or apartments for the team, separate rooms for simultaneous bilaterals, an office used as an office, indoor private dinners and receptions in a hotel or chalet, public ad space, and booking for 2028. What is no longer possible for 2027 is a new branded House: turning a shopfront, restaurant or gallery into a venue needed a permit applied for by 15 August.

Can a country, region or organisation still have a House or pavilion in 2027?

Only through a venue that already holds an approved permit naming you. Each organisation is limited to one project in total, and sponsors and partners have to be named in the original application. If you are not named, plan for 2028.

The way forward

Ask us which hosts already hold an approved permit and can still include you, and we check that it is allowed in their case. Otherwise submit for 2028 and plan your House before the permit deadline.

How do we get several separate meeting rooms for bilaterals at the same time?

Ask for separate rooms with their own doors, in one hotel or one chalet, and ask us to check that two rooms are really two rooms. For each space we confirm the layout, the capacity, how guests and caterers get in and the walk to the Congress Centre before we recommend it.

Can you work within our procurement process?

Yes. Tell us who decides, by when and what your procurement needs: quotes, written terms, invoicing. Each space comes with its own written quote and terms. Starting early helps, because central options fill six to nine months ahead.

About this page

Is this legal advice?

No. This page sets out how we read the rules in October 2026 and what we check before we recommend a space. Confirm with the Gemeinde Davos or your own counsel before you sign.

The way forward

Ask us to collect the documents with the owner, so your counsel has everything in one place to check. The list is above.

Can Davos Access get us WEF badges?

No. Accreditation is issued by the World Economic Forum and nobody can sell it. Davos Access is independent of the Forum, and we help with everything around it.

The way forward

Apply through the Forum for accreditation. Most of the week does not need a badge: ask us for a base, meeting space and the side events that fit you.

Davos Access is independent of the World Economic Forum and does not publish who asked us for what. We keep this page up to date as owners, venues and the municipality publish more. Last updated 7 October 2026.

How we read the rules: the permit, perimeter and accreditation rules on this page are general information as we understand them in October 2026, from public sources and the municipality of Davos's own pages. It is not legal advice and does not replace advice from Swiss counsel or from the Gemeinde Davos. Rules, deadlines and permits can change, and they apply to each case differently. Confirm before you sign.

This is one part of the week. Everything for Davos 2027 — dates, planning, where to stay, how access works and who is speaking.
